The large number of bridges makes it difficult to carry out comprehensive inspections, and that may sometimes result in tragedies like the collapse of the I-35 bridge in Minneapolis. A far more reliable solution would be that bridges be able to inspect themselves, and relay information to operators.

Last week there were images circulating around the web of a new Netbook from Lenovo, which is very similar in size and design to the expensive Sony Vaio P. Lenovo has now released official images of their new netbook, and also confirmed that it will be called the Pocket Yoga Netbook.

We saw a DIY Segway all the way back in August 2007, but it’s taken a little longer for wheels to evolve into legs.  The Cajun Crawler was built by a team at the University of Louisiana, with the platform design of a Segway but moving on legs rather then a pair of self-balancing wheels.

Anton Grimes’ rent-a-scooter design makes fantastically practical use of infrastructure, but would likely fail in real life. The electrical scooter stations are retrofitted to street lights for charging, and patrons of the scheme can make short hops from station to station at up to 16 Km/h (10 mph).
