Samsung Intensity II now at Best Buy, due at Verizon soon

The sequel to the entry-level Samsung Intensity handset will soon show itself at Verizon Wireless, according to a presence of a display unit in Best Buy stores. Simply named Intensity II, the slider phone has a hardware QWERTY keyboard, a two-megapixel camera and stereo Bluetooth onboard.

Microsoft followed in Apple's steps today by promising all employees a free smartphone at its Global Exchange meeting. The move would give as many as 90,000 staffers a Windows Phone 7 device when the first ones ship sometime before the holiday.

Wireless provider Verizon will reportedly soon add a prepaid mobile broadband plan that includes 5GB of data, or five times more than its current top-rung plan. It will cost $80, versus the $50 of the 1GB plan, and is assumed to last 30 days before it expires, like the other plans.

Verizon and Motorola have admitted the screen flickering issue of the newly released Droid X smartphone. In a statement, Verizon said it is aware of a "small number" of affected devices with a flickering or banding display.

HP raised the ceiling on the TouchSmart tm2 today by providing an option for a Core i5. The system doesn't advance past the 1.2GHz base clock speed of its regular Core i3 but now supports Hyperthreading and will behave like a quad-core notebook with the right apps.
