I would bet that most of us don’t have a dock in our cars that is specifically made for holding whatever phone you happen to carry. Many people just put the phone into the cup holder or toss it in the seat. The problem with that is that the phone can end up in the floor if you aren’t careful.

Google on Thursday outlined a plan to wire some of Stanford University with 1Gbps fiber optic Internet access. The move will be the first practical implementation of the Google Fiber project and will link about 850 of the school's faculty and staff homes.

Barnes & Noble today preceded its major event next week with a plan to expand Nook sales to Walmart. Both the Nook 3G and the Nook Wi-Fi will make their ways into 2,500 stores on October 24 and later for the same $150 and $200 prices they have today.

In an announcement on developer.apple.com, Apple states that "As of the release of Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 3, the version of Java that is ported by Apple, and that ships with Mac OS X, is deprecated." It now seems likely that OS X 10.7 will not have a Java install built into the OS .
