Garmin and ASUS aren't likely to keep up their partnership past the start of the year, observers noted on Friday. Taiwan's Economic Daily News understood that the alliance is due to end in January and will likely see both companies split rather than renew their plans.

Earlier in the month we talked about the red Nintendo Wii console bundle that Nintendo was offering in Japan to celebrate the 25th birthday of Mario. At the time there was no word on if the red Wii would come outside of Japan. Nintendo has now announced that the red Wii will be coming to the US.

Apple's 14.1 million iPhones were enough for it to comfortably jump over the BlackBerry for market share, Strategy Analytics found today. With an estimated 77.1 million smartphones moved in the summer, the iPhone leapt to 18.3 percent of the market, pushing RIM's 12.1 million down to 16.1 percent.

After more than 30 years of producing its Walkman portable cassette players, Sony said it's ending sales of the Walkman. The final batch was produced in Japan in April, and no more will be produced as soon as the current run is sold out.
