Facebook tonight sent out invitations to a "mobile event" at its headquarters in Palo Alto. The company provided no clues as to its plans but is most likely to focus on new apps or app features.

Microsoft today bought chip designer Canesta in what's believed to be a strategy to move gesture recognition to the PC. The deal will give access to a processing system, CanestaVision, that can convert the image from a camera's CMOS sensor into 3D data for gestures with depth.

A few readers have notified us that app ratings have disappeared entirely from the App Store in iTunes. The ratings still appear on the iOS App Stores and in browser previews of apps, but for the desktop iTunes view of the App Store, they are nowhere to be found.

Easily weighing in as a top Halloween costume this year is Young Robocop. Pretty awesome! "The helmet is an old bike helmet that didn't really fit him anymore, so I ripped out all the padding inside and glued on a piece of plastic I cut out from an old bucket to make the front visor part.
