DoCoMo of Japan will open its fourth-generation LTE cellular network for data use only on Dec. 24th, boasting speeds up to 10 times faster than the current 3G service. Maximum download rates may hit 75Mbps, with maximum upload speeds about half that, or 37.5Mbps.

In response to Ars Technica's recent finding that running Adobe's Flash Player on the new MacBook Air cut battery life by up to a third, Adobe's CTO, Kevin Lynch, has come out in in defense of his company's plugin during an interview with Fast Company. "It's a false argument to make," he claims.

Viewers discovered this weekend that SyFy has begun blocking Google TV devices from its site. The NBC-owned channel began telling users that video is not "currently available on this device." It joins blocks by other major studios, including NBC itself as well as ABC and CBS.

VESA chairman and WiGig board member Bruce Montag in an interview this weekend revealed that the 7Gbps WiGig standard for Wi-Fi should be ready in just over a year. He expected prototypes based on the ultra wideband, 60GHz technology to be ready in 2011 and shipping devices in 2012.
