AMD commits to the MeeGo open source Linux project

Chipmaker AMD on Monday pledged its support to the MeeGo open-source operating system for mobile devices. The announcement was made at the MeeGo Conference 2010 and sees AMD joining Intel and Nokia as partners in the Linux Foundation project.

Motorola today said that its planned mobile group spin-off was taking place in January. Speaking at the at the Motorola Solutions conference, company co-chief Greg Brown narrowed down the previous early 2011 window for Motorola Mobility's separation to the very start of the year.

Comcast started off the week by launching Xfinity TV (free, App Store) for the iPad and iPhone. The app currently serves as a remote control and lets users steer live TV, on demand videos and the DVR to either change stations or schedule recordings for later.

Over the weekend, Apple [AAPL] introduced Ping to the iPad. Ping can be found in the iPad iTunes application and is positioned on the bottom menu bar around the middle (as pictured above).The service matches that of iTunes on the desktop and is capable of connecting up to Twitter to push out tweets.

While people who have used both iOS and Android devices will argue over which OS exhibits a greater degree of polish, Android definitely has the better notification system. Even the addition of multitasking to iOS 4 did little to improve the state of notifications on iOS devices compared to Android.
