Test Drive: Ford Flex

A wee bit ago I took a spin in the Ford Flex here in NYC. While it’s not a geek’s dream, it does have a few high tech goodies that kept my interest. That’s what we’re going to focus on with these Test Drive features going forward since we’re not an auto blog. We’ll start off with Easy Fuel.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed that it plans to shut down Go!Messenger, a VoIP application that was technically only available in Europe. (Hence, the SCEE confirmation.) There’s a silver lining, though: no jobs will be lost as a result of the shutdown.

Panasonic today announced its W8 Premium Edition laptop that adopts a 80GB Intel X-25M SSD with a 250MB/sec in reading speed and 70MB/sec in writing speed. The notebook is available in three different lid covers including Black, Silver and Pink Splash. No info on pricing or availability so far.

Sega hasn’t given up yet on the arcade business but isn’t really investing a lot of resources into their gaming machines either. During the AOU, an arcade exhibition that took place in Tokyo last week, the company presented two new pieces of arcade game hardware that both are PC-based.

Don't get a Mini 10! Dell's new netbook will not permit upgrading of the 1GB of RAM it comes with, unlike practically every other model on the market, including its popular Mini 9. Windows XP can't be bundled with machines containing more than 1GB of RAM, as per Microsoft's licensing rules.

The notoriously liberal, as if that’s a bad thing in and of itself, Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that that California law restricting the sale of so-called violent video games to minors violates “free speech guarantees.”

The new LG Xcanvas LCDs are now available in South Korea. There are two models from the Xcanvas LH70 Series, a 47 inch (40.9mm thick) and 42 inch (39.7mm thick). Both LCDs feature a 10 000:1 contrast ratio with a 120Hz panel, 2ms response time, LG’s Color Decanting and EYEQ Green.
