Apple and News Corp. sent out invitations to a February 2 event to unveil The Daily. The press event will include News Corps. Chairman & CEO Rupert Murdoch and Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of Internet Services.

Samsung and Apple look to be on good terms.  Samsung is planning to quadruple the shipment of its mobile processor chips to chief smartphone rival Apple. Apple was receiving about 5,000 application processor sheets per month from Samsung, this is to increase to 20,000 sheets.

Sonos today pushed out an update to its audio devices to add Rdio support. The expansion gives them access to on-demand streaming for songs, playlists and whole albums. Social playlists from friends, popular Rdio users and the servce's charts will also pipe through the multi-room audio system....

Real images, as opposed to a render, have now been leaked online of a buttonless HTC smartphone. Courtesy of Chinese forum site Mobile01, the photos confirm the lack of a front-facing camera and a rear panel that resembles that of its Droid Incredible stablemate.

Sony's European PlayStation lead Andrew House sent word in an interview on Thursday that the Next Generation Portable will have Wi-Fi only versions. He promised "multiple" handhelds for the end of the year and that only one would have 3G.

AT&T added 2.8 million new customers in the past quarter and became the largest carrier in the U.S. with 95.5 million subscribers, squeaking past Verizon’s 94.1 million.  The question is how long can AT&T sustain it’s lead as Verizon’s much hyped iPhone is debuting in two weeks?

The T-Mobile Sidekick 4G that's been confirmed as coming by the carrier's CEO has now showed up in photos, thanks to TMoNews. The device is now known to sport a front-facing camera and will be manufactured by Samsung, idenitified by the logo on the rear of the device.

Compounding battles over security concerns in India, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, RIM is now said to be facing a web access blockage in Egypt. The country's government or carriers have already blocked Twitter and Facebook. Talk on Twitter suggested this is the case.
