Apple Drops iPod Prices: Old Models to Stay in Store, Shuffle to Be Axed?

With nary a “Back Soon” sticky note to signal a reshuffle of its product lines, Apple has already started to drop the prices of various iPods. The main landing pages still carry the old prices, but the new, lower prices are already live on the actual checkout.

It’s always those darned case manufacturers giving things away.  Latest to scoop Apple to their own announcement is Cygnett, who have thrown up product pages for both iPod touch G3 and iPod nano G5 models; the same models we’re expecting Apple to unveil later today.

Engadget managed to get hold of a Palm Pixi to take a look at. Originally it was called the Pixie and then the Eos a few months back… now it is known as the Pixi and is headed to Sprint.

It has been 10 years since the Sega Dreamcast first launched and to coincide with the anniversary, Sega have announced the launch of a new Sonic the Hedgehog named “Project Needlemouse” that is going back to it’s 2D roots.

Apple in a rare move this morning dropped the prices of most iPods at the online Apple Store ahead of today's special music event. The iPod touch has received the largest drop and now costs just $279 for a 32GB model, $249 for a 16GB model and $189 for an 8GB version.

Cygnett might be in a world of trouble. The retailer has a set of photos up showing off its cases for the iPod touch 3G and Nano 5G and *gasp* the pics show an actual product that fits all the leaked descriptions. The almighty Steve Jobs isn’t going to like this too much.

HP are launching a new netbook named the HP Mini 311 that looks like it runs an Intel Atom N270 processor with 1GB of RAM a 160GB HDD and a six-cell battery. A number of Mini 11 flavours have been listed on HP’s site (37 in total) that will run various configurations.
