Around the corner from the PCMag.com office is a construction site for a hi-rise apartment complex. Last Tuesday, when I passed it on my lunch hour, I noticed one of the workers pointing his iPhone's camera up at the structure, so I tried to see what he was aiming at.

Palm has been apparently been busy warning UK retailers that it is less than happy with pre-order pages for SIM-free versions of the Palm Pre, informing them that the webOS smartphone will only be available in locked form (presumably to O2, the company’s UK carrier partner).

Yamaha on Friday announced the upcoming release of its SoundGadget SoundGadget PSG-01S and Projectphone PJP-25URS speakerphones that are certified to work with Skype calls. Besides providing a microphone, the two are entirely USB powered and don't need drivers.

Viewsonic unveiled two new ultraportable laptop dubbed the Viewsonic VB102 and VB132. VB102 packs a 13.3 inch screen and powered by an Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM and 160 GB HDD. VB102 is priced at $349 and comes with a 3-cell battery while the 6-cell version has a $399 price tag.

It’s obviously a day for promising 1080p PMPs, with Teclast’s upcoming T56 also boasting Full HD.  The T56 has a 5-inch 16m color WVGA (800 x 480) display and some endearingly angular styling to its case; it also has an HDMI output for putting 1080p clips onto your nearest HDTV.

The Sony NWZ-B142F is a Walkman in the B series range and measures 86mm x 23.6mm x 14.5mm making it quite small (about the size of a chunky flash drive). It has a small 3 line display screen that allows you to navigate around the features of the MP3 player as well as showing track details.
