Garmin wrapped up its year today with two new Oregon GPS mappers for the outdoors. The Oregon 450 and 450t both replace the older 400 models with a more visible and responsive touchscreen for its navigation.

There are lots of different GPS devices that are aimed at different uses. In the car, we have GPS devices that help us drive from one place to another around town or across the country. Outdoors active types can get GPS devices that help them find their way in the wild outdoors.

Format wars are not uncommon in the technology world. We had format wars with Betamax versus VHS in the 80’s and more recently the Blu-ray versus HD DVD format wars. Another format war is brewing in the movie theater industry that could spill over into the home as well.

LG today teased some of its plans for CES by showing the first two devices to use the new Mobile DTV standard for free over-the-air broadcasts in the US. Headlining these is a modified version of the LG Lotus messaging phone that adds an antenna and tuner to pick up live TV.

I mentioned yesterday that update 1.3.5 for WebOS on the Palm Pre was inbound. Prior to the update coming in there was a video floating around that showed the Need for Speed game being played on the Pre.
