Revive iBook G4 Using Ubuntu

I was recently helping a friend with their iBook G4.  It came to me with the ominous clicking hard drive.  After a little bit of playing around I determined that the hard drive was in fact toast.  Now, if you have ever disassembled an iBook G4, you will know what a pain in the posterior it can be.

Really, who wants to go out into the wilderness and track down dinner? Sure the idea seems fun and adventurous but  for people like myself it would result in nothing more than being swarmed by hornets and falling in a creek. And ultimately going home hungry.

Acer have announced their latest netbook, the Aspire One AO532h, and as you’d expect it’s based on Intel’s new Pine Trail processor.  The AO532h has a 1.66GHz Atom N450 CPU, 10.1-inch WSVGA display and 1GB of RAM, along with a 160GB hard-drive and WiFi b/g/n.

You might be able to squeeze a little more storage into those Blu-ray discs soon. Sony and Panasonic have been working on increasing the maximum capacity per-layer from 25 to 33.4GB, and the new version might be ready for market in the near future.

So here’s a somewhat interesting gadget. Instead of converting a PS3 into a hand-held device, a crafty modder named techknott built a custom transmitter. The transmitter allows a player to not only control their PS3 remotely, but also to view the output on a small video screen.

An unofficial port of Doom for the Palm Pre has further indicated that the handset and the Pixi will soon get hardware accelerated graphics. The game requires that users update their handsets to the recently-released webOS 1.3.5 and confirms that OpenGL is built-in.
