The HTC HD2 smartphone will soon get an accessory that will double its battery life and enable it to stand up in either portrait or a landscape orientation for viewing videos. The HD2 Extended Battery will be offered by UK electronics retailer Clove.

IBM on Friday said it has achieved a record in areal data density on linear magnetic tape. The hardware giant has recorded data onto a dual-coat barium ferrite prototype magnetic tape at a density of 29.5 billion bits per square inch, or 39 times denser than current magnetic tapes.

A handful of leaks hint that Nokia should unveil at least one or two cellphones outside of Mobile World Congress and may be the start of the Cseries trademarked last year. Nokia UK chief Mark Loughran has inadvertently revealed that at least one phone is due to appear on the 26th.

The absurdity of this issue, I swear. Get this: churches (and other deals like outdoor events) have been using microphones that operate on the 700MHz spectrum since, like, forever. It turns out that that part of the spectrum, 700MHz, is to be set aside for over-the-air digital TV broadcasts.

Synology has launched the DiskStation DS1010+, a new network-area storage system. The unit has five SATA/SSD drive bays by default, and is intended mainly for small- or medium-sized businesses. It can be scaled to use up to 3GB of RAM however, and as many as 10 bays via the DX510, due in March.

IFPI claims that music piracy is right up there with climate change. At least they’re not being melodramatic about it.
